Journal Policies
The Journal of Artificial Intelligence Systems (JAIS) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of scholarly publishing through transparent editorial practices, rigorous peer review, research integrity, and ethical governance. The journal follows internationally recognized publishing principles to ensure fairness, quality, accountability, and academic excellence throughout the publication process.
Editorial Oversight
The editorial operations of JAIS are managed by the Editor-in-Chief together with Associate Editors and members of the Editorial Board. Editorial appointments are based on academic expertise, research achievements, editorial experience, and commitment to maintaining the journal's quality standards.
The editorial team is responsible for establishing journal policies, maintaining publication quality, overseeing peer review, and making independent editorial decisions. Editorial appointments are reviewed periodically to ensure continued effectiveness and diversity across disciplines, institutions, and geographical regions.
Editorial decisions are made independently and are not influenced by commercial interests, institutional affiliations, funding sources, or personal relationships.
Editorial Responsibilities
The Editor-in-Chief oversees the entire editorial workflow, including initial manuscript assessment, editor assignment, editorial policy implementation, and final publication decisions. Associate Editors manage manuscripts within their areas of expertise and supervise the peer-review process from submission through final recommendation.
Editors evaluate submissions based solely on their scientific merit, originality, methodological quality, ethical compliance, and relevance to the journal's scope.
Initial Editorial Screening
Every submitted manuscript undergoes an initial editorial assessment before entering peer review. During this stage, editors evaluate whether the submission:
- Falls within the journal's scope.
- Demonstrates sufficient scientific quality.
- Represents original research.
- Complies with submission requirements.
- Meets ethical and publication standards.
Manuscripts that do not satisfy these requirements may be declined without external review.
Peer Review Process
Manuscripts that successfully pass editorial screening are assigned to an Academic Editor who coordinates the anonymous peer-review process. Normally, each manuscript is evaluated by at least two independent experts possessing relevant subject knowledge.
Reviewers assess the manuscript for originality, technical quality, methodological soundness, significance of findings, clarity of presentation, ethical compliance, and contribution to the field of artificial intelligence.
Editors consider reviewer recommendations alongside their own independent assessment before making the final editorial decision.
Editorial Decisions
Following peer review, one of the following decisions may be issued:
- Accept
- Minor Revision
- Major Revision
- Reject with Invitation to Resubmit
- Reject
Editorial decisions are based solely on scholarly merit and the recommendations provided during peer review.
Reviewer Selection
Peer reviewers are selected based on their academic qualifications, publication record, subject expertise, and previous reviewing experience. The editorial office seeks reviewers from diverse institutions and geographical regions to ensure balanced and objective evaluations.
Authors are generally not permitted to nominate reviewers for their own manuscripts. The editorial office reserves complete discretion in reviewer selection to preserve the integrity and independence of the review process.
Reviewer Responsibilities
Reviewers are expected to provide constructive, objective, and confidential evaluations within the agreed review period. Review reports should focus on improving the quality of the manuscript while identifying strengths, weaknesses, methodological concerns, and recommendations for revision where appropriate.
All information contained within submitted manuscripts must be treated as confidential and must not be shared or used for personal research purposes.
Use of Artificial Intelligence
JAIS recognizes that generative artificial intelligence technologies are increasingly being used to support academic writing and research workflows. Authors may use AI-assisted tools for language improvement, grammar correction, or formatting, provided that such use remains transparent and does not compromise scientific integrity.
Artificial intelligence tools must not be listed as authors since they cannot assume responsibility for published work. Authors remain fully accountable for the accuracy, originality, ethical compliance, and integrity of every submitted manuscript.
Where substantial AI assistance has been used during manuscript preparation, authors should disclose this appropriately within the manuscript or submission metadata in accordance with the journal's AI policy.
Editorial Independence
Editorial decisions are made independently of the publisher, sponsors, advertisers, funding organizations, or any external stakeholders. Neither financial considerations nor commercial interests influence editorial judgments or publication decisions.
Editorial Board
The Editorial Board consists of experienced researchers representing diverse academic disciplines, institutions, and countries. Board members provide strategic guidance, advise on editorial policies, promote the journal within the academic community, and occasionally participate in manuscript handling and peer review.
Journal Governance
The journal operates under a transparent governance structure designed to ensure accountability, editorial independence, ethical publishing, and continuous quality improvement. Major editorial policies are reviewed periodically to align with evolving international publishing standards and best practices.
Business Practices
Editorial Independence
Financial operations, publication fees, sponsorships, or institutional partnerships have no influence over editorial decisions. Acceptance of manuscripts depends exclusively on academic quality and successful peer review.
Advertising Policy
JAIS does not permit advertising that could compromise the journal's academic independence or editorial integrity. Any future advertising arrangements, if introduced, will remain completely separate from editorial decision-making.
Direct Marketing
The journal conducts responsible and ethical communication with researchers, institutions, and readers. Promotional activities are intended solely to increase awareness of the journal and are never used to influence editorial outcomes.
Special Collections
The journal may occasionally publish Special Issues or Thematic Collections focusing on emerging areas of artificial intelligence. All manuscripts submitted to Special Issues undergo the same editorial assessment and anonymous peer-review process as regular submissions.
Guest Editors, where appointed, supervise the thematic collection under the oversight of the Editor-in-Chief. Final publication decisions remain the responsibility of the journal's editorial leadership.

Updated policies become effective immediately upon publication on the journal website unless otherwise stated.
