Instructions for Authors

The International Journal of Computational Intelligence (IJCI) welcomes original scholarly work that contributes to the development, evaluation, and application of computational intelligence and intelligent computing methods. Authors should ensure that manuscripts are prepared according to the requirements below before submission.

1. Suitable Contributions

IJCI considers original research and scholarly studies involving computational intelligence, intelligent algorithms, machine learning, optimization, evolutionary computation, fuzzy systems, neural networks, swarm intelligence, pattern recognition, intelligent decision systems, and related computational applications.

The journal accepts research articles, review articles, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, survey papers, short communications, technical notes, case studies, and methodological or perspective articles.

2. Originality and Submission

A submitted manuscript must represent original work and must not have been previously published or be under consideration by another journal or publication venue. Submission indicates that all listed authors have approved the manuscript and agreed to its submission to IJCI.

Authors are responsible for obtaining appropriate permission for any copyrighted material reproduced in the manuscript.

3. Language and File Format

Manuscripts must be written in English. Either American or British English may be used, but the selected form should be applied consistently throughout the manuscript.

Manuscripts should preferably be submitted in Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) or another format supported by the online submission system.

4. Recommended Manuscript Organization

The structure may vary according to the nature of the study, but research manuscripts will normally contain the following elements:

  1. Title
  2. Author names and affiliations
  3. Abstract
  4. Keywords
  5. Introduction
  6. Related Work or Literature Review
  7. Methodology
  8. Results
  9. Discussion
  10. Conclusion
  11. Declarations and supporting information, where applicable
  12. References

5. Title, Authors, and Abstract

The title should be concise and accurately describe the principal subject of the study. The manuscript should identify all authors by their full names and institutional affiliations. The corresponding author's email address should also be provided. ORCID iDs are encouraged.

The abstract should normally contain approximately 150–250 words and should communicate the purpose of the study, methodology, principal findings, and main conclusion. Authors should provide 3–8 keywords immediately after the abstract.

6. Research Presentation

Authors should describe methods, datasets, computational procedures, experimental settings, and evaluation criteria with sufficient clarity to allow readers to understand and assess the work. Mathematical expressions, algorithms, variables, and technical terminology should be presented consistently.

Figures and tables must be clearly labelled, numbered consecutively, and cited in the manuscript. Authors should ensure that submitted figures are of appropriate quality and that permissions have been obtained for third-party material where necessary.

7. References

References should be accurate, complete, and consistently formatted. Every source cited in the manuscript should appear in the reference list, and every reference listed should be appropriately cited. Authors are encouraged to include DOIs or other persistent identifiers whenever available.

8. Research Data and Reproducibility

IJCI encourages authors to make research data, source code, algorithms, and other supporting resources available whenever practical and ethically appropriate. Where data or materials cannot be shared because of privacy, confidentiality, legal, or ethical restrictions, the manuscript should provide an appropriate explanation.

9. Ethical and Research Declarations

Where applicable, manuscripts must include information concerning ethical approval, informed consent, animal welfare, data protection, or other relevant ethical requirements. Authors should also disclose funding and any conflicts of interest that could reasonably be perceived as influencing the research.

10. Use of Artificial Intelligence

Authors must remain responsible for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and ethical compliance of their manuscripts when using artificial intelligence or AI-assisted technologies.

Material use of generative AI or AI-assisted tools in manuscript preparation, data analysis, coding, image generation, or other research activities should be appropriately disclosed. AI systems cannot be listed as authors.

11. Manuscript Length

IJCI does not impose a single mandatory word limit for all submissions. Authors should provide sufficient detail for the work to be evaluated without unnecessary length. As a general guide, research articles are typically 5,000–10,000 words, while review and systematic review papers may be longer when justified by their scope.

12. Submission and Editorial Assessment

Manuscripts must be submitted through the journal's online submission system. Authors should verify all manuscript files, author information, affiliations, and submission metadata before completing the submission.

Each manuscript first undergoes an editorial assessment for scope, presentation, originality, and basic scholarly suitability. Manuscripts that proceed beyond this stage may undergo double-anonymous peer review by independent reviewers.

13. Editorial Decisions

Following editorial assessment and peer review, the journal may issue an Accept, Minor Revision, Major Revision, Reject and Resubmit, or Reject decision. A request for revision does not constitute a guarantee of acceptance.

14. Author Checklist

  • The manuscript falls within the scope of IJCI.
  • The work is original and is not simultaneously submitted elsewhere.
  • All authors have approved the submitted version.
  • The title, abstract, keywords, author information, and affiliations are complete.
  • Figures and tables are properly numbered and cited.
  • References are complete and accurate.
  • Ethical, funding, conflict-of-interest, and data statements are included where applicable.
  • Any relevant use of AI-assisted technologies has been disclosed.
  • The manuscript has been carefully checked before submission.
