Editorial and Journal Policies
The International Journal of Computational Intelligence (IJCI) is committed to responsible scholarly publishing, transparent editorial practice, rigorous peer review, research integrity, and editorial independence. The following policies establish the principles governing the journal's editorial and publication activities.
Editorial Governance
The journal is administered by the Editor-in-Chief with support from the Editorial Board and, where applicable, Associate Editors. Editorial responsibilities are assigned according to academic expertise, subject knowledge, research experience, and editorial competence.
Editorial decisions are based on the scholarly and ethical merits of submissions and are made independently of commercial, financial, or personal interests.
Editorial Assessment
All submissions are subject to an initial editorial assessment. The journal may evaluate the manuscript's relevance to the scope of IJCI, originality, basic methodological quality, presentation, ethical considerations, and compliance with submission requirements.
A manuscript that is unsuitable for the journal or does not meet essential editorial requirements may be declined before external peer review.
Peer Review
Manuscripts considered suitable for further evaluation may undergo double-anonymous peer review. Reviewers are selected according to their subject expertise, research background, and ability to provide an independent assessment.
Peer reviewers evaluate manuscripts with consideration of originality, methodological soundness, technical quality, significance, clarity, relevance, and ethical integrity. Reviewer recommendations contribute to the editorial decision but do not automatically determine the final outcome.
Editorial Decisions
Depending on the outcome of editorial assessment and peer review, the journal may issue one of the following decisions:
- Accept
- Minor Revision
- Major Revision
- Reject and Resubmit
- Reject
A revision request does not guarantee eventual acceptance. Revised manuscripts may undergo additional editorial or peer review.
Reviewer Conduct
Reviewers are expected to provide objective, constructive, and confidential evaluations. Review comments should address the scholarly quality of the manuscript and identify substantive issues that may assist authors in improving their work.
Manuscripts and associated information received during peer review must be treated as confidential. Reviewers should not use unpublished information for personal or professional advantage.
Reviewer Selection and Conflicts
The editorial office selects reviewers based on relevant expertise and independence. Individuals with potential conflicts of interest should not participate in the review of a manuscript.
The journal retains discretion over reviewer selection in order to protect the confidentiality and independence of the peer-review process.
Editorial Independence
Editorial decisions are independent of the publisher, sponsors, advertisers, funding organizations, and other external interests. Publication decisions are based on scholarly considerations rather than financial or commercial relationships.
Artificial Intelligence
IJCI recognizes the increasing use of artificial intelligence in research and scholarly communication. Authors may use AI-assisted tools where appropriate, but such use must not compromise the accuracy, originality, integrity, or ethical standards of the work.
AI systems cannot be credited as authors because they cannot accept responsibility for published research. Authors remain responsible for all content submitted to the journal. Where substantial AI assistance has contributed to manuscript preparation or research activities, appropriate disclosure should be provided.
Editorial Board
Members of the Editorial Board provide academic and strategic guidance, support the development of journal policies, contribute to editorial activities, and may participate in manuscript assessment or peer review when appropriate.
The journal seeks to maintain an Editorial Board with appropriate subject expertise and representation across relevant areas of computational intelligence.
Special Issues and Collections
IJCI may publish Special Issues or thematic collections addressing emerging research areas. Submissions to such collections remain subject to the journal's normal standards of editorial assessment and peer review.
Where Guest Editors are appointed, they operate under the oversight of the Editor-in-Chief. Final publication decisions remain subject to the journal's editorial governance.
Business and Publication Practices
Publication Fees
Any applicable publication or processing charges are administered separately from editorial evaluation. Payment or financial considerations do not determine whether a manuscript is accepted for publication.
Advertising
The journal does not permit advertising arrangements that compromise editorial independence or academic integrity. Any permitted promotional activity will remain separate from manuscript evaluation and editorial decision-making.
Direct Communication
The journal may communicate with researchers, authors, reviewers, and readers to provide information about journal activities, publications, or submission opportunities. Such communication should be professional, relevant, and consistent with responsible scholarly publishing practices.
Article Categories
IJCI publishes several forms of scholarly contribution, including research articles, review articles, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, survey papers, short communications, technical notes, case studies, and methodological or perspective articles.
Regardless of article category, all submissions are expected to meet the journal's requirements for scholarly quality, originality, ethical conduct, and research integrity.
Policy Review and Updates
IJCI periodically reviews its editorial and publication policies to ensure that they remain appropriate for developments in computational intelligence, scholarly communication, research ethics, and responsible publishing. Policy changes will be published on the journal website and will apply from the stated effective date.
